In the US last year there have been more than 2 million reported burglaries. two out of three times the burglars forced entry through a door, one third came in through a window.

As a homeowner you want to do everything to keep your property safe, you want it to be a safe harbor for yourself and your family. You also want to protect your belongings for which you have worked so hard from burglars or vandalism.

Many people think that arming up is the best solution but that is far from the case to the contrary you add another danger into your home especially when you have kids who can accidentally access to weapons.

Most people think a security system costs a lot of money.  That doesn’t have to be true; there are a lot of affordable quality systems on the market today that do an excellent job.  In the long run having security system is back itself and can even save you money as many insurance companies will give you a discount on their rates if you have an alarm system present.

Having an alarm system and showing that you have one, will reduce the risk of intruders significantly as for them it raises the risk of getting caught dramatically.

But it’s not only external factors that threaten our families, also inside the house there is a lot that can threaten our families.  Many fires, for example, start in the kitchen, and almost every room in the house has its particular dangers.

We hope that on this website can provide you with a lot of information and how to maximize the security and safety of your home.

Apartment Crime Prevention Tips

by on July 8, 2010

A lot of crime in apartment buildings is caused by residents letting in anyone without proper screening.  Never let any strangers into the building without proper screening.  If they claim to be maintenance crew, refer them to the manager.  If you see anyone in the building that you don’t know and who are acting suspiciously, notify the manager or the police.

Get to know the people who live and work in the building: tenants, maintenance crew, the manager, … When it comes to safety, it is primarily a group effort.  Get acquainted with your immediate neighbors and propose to keep an eye out for each other when on holiday.

Make sure that your apartment door has a dead-bolt lock and a peephole for greater  security.  If you are just moving in, you should change your locks as you can never be sure if anyone still has a copy of the key.  Never have any form of identification attached to your key ring if you do, you should replace locks immediately if you happen to lose your keys.

Women by themselves should be wary about placing their first name on the letterbox or doorbell.  It is better to use your initial to avoid being seen as an easier target.  If your building has a communal laundry room, ask someone you know to join you.

When leaving the apartment, always make sure that windows are closed and that you lock your door behind you.
